COMFORT FROM THE WORD
We are hearing more often of Christians suffering for their faith. We should be expecting this in the last days. Jesus said we are to be watching and to be ready for His coming. The last days will be filled with stress and worry, but we have hope. We have His Word to comfort us as we wait for His coming.
Our faith is in God's infallible, inerrant Word. The Bible gives us power to fight the devil and his demons. It is the sword of the Spirit, (Ephesians 6:17) and His truth is our shield (Psalms 91:4) We can feed and grow spiritually on God's Word. His Word gives us peace and encouragement for today and assurance for the future.
WE HAVE HOPE
The world has no hope without God. The sinner has no hope unless he turns to God. There is nothing for the lost person to look forward to beyond this world. "When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth." (Proverbs 11:7)
The Christian has hope. "I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope." (Psalm 130:5)
"Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD." (Psalm 31:24)
"The hope of the righteous shall be gladness." (Proverbs 10:28)
We discover the reason we have hope when we read the Bible. "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." (Romans 15:4)
We place our faith and hope in Him who died, was buried, and on the third day arose. Peter wrote: "Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God." (1 Peter 1:21) We must place our faith and hope in God.
